Heavy rainfall amounts have impacted much of Texas recently. Many homes and businesses have been impacted by rising flood waters and leaky roofs.

SERVPRO of Rockwall/Rowlett has been on the scene to quickly handle water mitigation and flood cleanup for those who called us onsite. Some who tried to clean up themselves are now dealing with a much more serious mold issue.

Here are some things to consider:

1. Do not take for granted any unusual growth. Mold takes on many shapes, forms, and colors.
2. Try to determine or recall what the source might be. Is it an unknown water leak? Is it from a previous, un-mitigated water damage?
3. Do some inspecting. Are more than 25 square feet impacted? In the event that there are 25 or more square feet of affected surface, the state of Texas requires a Protocol from an Industrial Hygienist (which includes the types of mold present and clearance testing to confirm the mitigation is completed) and a work plan be submitted to the state prior to any remediation efforts begin. This is to protect customers from non-licensed contractors causing mold to spread throughout the facility.
